In ddition to our waste management efforts, at Folk Wood Forestry, our main focus is: caring for trees, from nursing saplings to planting trees in degraded land areas, to pruning trees stands and community engagement; We enjoy conserving the natural environment, creating sustainable forestry investments and setting a nature loving example for the younger generation.
Since it’s establishment in 2019, Folk Wood forestry has crafted 274,000 bags from paper, planted over 15,000 trees on the degraded hillsides of Isingiro District Uganda. And we continue steering community efforts towards reforestation and land restoration.

Currently, we are working towards the establishment of a Hand Kraft center, with this, we will be able to increase the number of paper bags produced, the number of youth and womens enployed and the number of trees planted.

With a fully functional Paper Bag Craft Center, we would like to empower 50 youth and women with skills training and employment, we hope to be able to produce 1.5 million paper bags to replace an estimate of 7 tonnes of waste from being dumped into waterways and farmlands. The profits from sales are see to subsidize tree planting expenses for the members of the low income households within our community. With our agroforestry and permaculture reforestation efforts we hope to plant over 500,000 trees upon currently bare land in Mbale district by 2029. There is a long way to go, and we recognise that we can’t do it alone.
